Case Study - EFG London Jazz Festival

Project: EFG London Jazz Festival

Client: Serious / EFG Private Banking

Role: Graphic Design Lead 2020 - Present

The EFG London Jazz Festival is an annual extravaganza that celebrates the vibrant and diverse world of jazz, set against the backdrop of one of the most culturally rich cities in the world. Over the course of several days, this remarkable event brings together an exceptional lineup of internationally acclaimed artists, rising talents, and esteemed local jazz figures across a myriad of venues.

Studio Mayall’s journey with the festival began in 2019 when we presented our initial ideas to Serious, the festival's production team. Although we didn't secure the pitch that year, we were incredibly fortunate to have the privilege of designing for the festival starting from 2020, and this year marks our fourth opportunity to shape the festival's branding.

London Jazz Festival Branding,. 2020 - 2023

Each year, our task is to build upon the previous years design, striking a balance between evolution and continuity. Our scope of work encompasses every visual aspect of the festival, including:

  • Designing and producing the festival brand + sub-brands

  • Developing a cohesive graphic language

  • Creating captivating illustrations

  • Designing the festival website (visual aspects only)

  • Crafting social media templates

  • Conceptualising outdoor and editorial advertising

  • Designing programs and brochures

  • Developing assets for sponsors

  • Creating fresh merchandise

  • Producing eye-catching banners, posters, backdrops, projections, and gobos

It's an exciting and creatively fulfilling endeavour that allows us to contribute to the vibrant spirit of the EFG London Jazz Festival, and we look forwards to seeing a few acts of the course of the festival in November. You can find out more about the festival and buy tickets here.

Our success in designing for the EFG London Jazz Festival led to an exciting new opportunity with Serious. They entrusted us with designing the visual identity for their latest festival, Higher Ground. Featuring an all-female line-up of singer-songwriters, genre-defying acts, and contemporary sounds. Expect impressive live performances from leading international names, DJ sets, and more across the day and night at Roundhouse London.

Studio Mayall has been designing the key visual of the EFG London Jazz Festival as well as its several applications, and for over five editions of the Festival we are thrilled to work with them.

They understand our work and bring a great aesthetic to our vision. The designs get refreshed every year and still stay true to the core values and consistency of our brand image.

Their speedy and flexible working style, positive attitude, and collaborative approach make them a valuable member of the extended Festival family.

Having worked with Studio Mayall so successfully on the Festival, we have also commissioned them for other work including our new event Higher Ground, and on each occasion, they deliver! They understand the needs and character of every event we do. Their enthusiasm and knowledge of art and music make a big difference too.
